Fire Fighter Gear
There is a lot of fire fighter gear that every firefighter
should have. Unlike some professions where they can do their job without
all the gear, firefighters have to have all of their gear in order to
survive and save lives.
The gear that a firefighter has to wear is extensive.
Everyone is familiar with the jacket, helmet, and boots, but it goes
far beyond that. Firefighters have to have clothes on under their gear
in order to stay comfortable, and when on call they have to be wearing
the proper clothing so that they can gear up quickly and get going.
Firefighters need to have hoods that give their heads
and face an extra layer of protection. They also need to be sure that
they are wearing the proper eyewear for their job. If they are not wearing
a full-face mask, they are usually wearing goggles so that they cannot
slip off while they are working.
Some other gear that firefighters have to be sure they
have available includes flashlights and gloves. A firefighter’s
self contained breathing apparatus is a piece of equipment that they
need to make sure is in working order at all times. If this fails, it
puts not only the firefighter wearing it in danger, but also the firefighters
that have to rescue him.
The gear that they need is also dictated by exactly what
the firefighters do. Many firefighters have to know more and more information
all the time. Instead of just responding to fires, firefighters now
respond to car crashes and other medical emergencies. They have to have
gear that will ensure that they are prepared for any situation that
they are called to.
This can include fire fighter gear such as hammers specially made to
break glass and knives that are made for cutting through seat belts
without the risk of cutting the person in the car. Paramedic equipment
is often required for some firefighters as well.
There is also fire fighter gear for wilderness firefighters.
While these firefighters don’t have to carry as much equipment
for responding to accidents, they are often farther away from supplies,
so they need to be prepared for anything they may encounter in the wilderness.
They often need things like picks and shovels for creating trenches
and weather meters.
Some other gear that they may need includes chest harnesses that keep
their radios and other necessary gear right where they can get it easily.
First aid kits are always required for firefighters to have near at
hand.
There is a very long list of fire fighter gear that is
either required or recommended. If you are looking to buy any of it,
either for yourself or for someone you know, there are many stores that
sell these supplies. They can easily be found online. Some stores that
sell this gear have specials regularly to help people save money on
their supplies.
